Artist Biography:
Richard Lindner, born on November 11, 1901, in Hamburg, Germany, was a German-American painter known for his bold, surrealistic style that combined elements of pop art, cubism, and German expressionism. After fleeing Nazi Germany in 1933, Lindner eventually settled in New York City, where he became a prominent figure in the post-war American art scene. His work often featured stylized, mechanical figures, vibrant colors, and a unique blend of eroticism and humor, reflecting the influences of urban life, advertising, and modernity. Lindner's art was marked by its distinct, graphic quality and its exploration of themes such as power, sexuality, and identity. He influenced a generation of artists and was associated with the Pop Art movement, despite his unique and independent approach. Richard Lindner passed away on April 16, 1978, in New York City.
