Provenance: We originally purchased this together with a 2nd Avedon image entitled “Dovima with Elephants”, also marked with label on the reverse “Lent by Richard Avedon”, both for $10,000 from its previous owner who acquired it in the late 1980’s for this same amount at a Museum of Modern Art charity Gala in New York City. We later sold the Dovima example to another photo dealer for $45,000. Afterwards it sold at auction for $75k and then again for $150k.
