A burl (or burr) is a complex, rounded tree growth where the wood grain has grown in a highly deformed manner, typically due to injury or infection. Although historically avoided by large companies, burled wood yields a very peculiar and highly figured pattern that makes it fiercely sought after in woodworking. The practice of using sliced burls for decorative items like wall clocks entered the mainstream in the 19th century and continues today, with burr maple being particularly prized for its rich coloration.
Some cracks. Commensurate with nature.
