Pre-1950s Custom Made Frontier Style Bowie Knife in Tooled Leather Sheath.
The blade has no thumb rest or choil, and a scimitar-like upward curve of the spine before the abrupt point. The guard has a deeper bottom than usual, indicating it was used more for combat than everyday purposes, with an elongated curved facet and a tip only slightly worn down from use. Excellent reflection in the blade, indicating it was cared for, with minimal scratches but no visible maker's marks or identification numbers. The butt is smaller than usual, indicating it could be used both thrusting forward or downward at a moment's notice, and the handle is wrapped in a way similar to homemade Pacific Theater knives of World War II, with specific red-white-red sections of the leather to indicate where best to grip when used in darker places or at night time. The sheath is likely the original, given the shape, with a stamped stag at top and a majestic eagle standing on an American shield on bottom. All signs indicate this was a cherished piece lovingly cared for by the original owner and subsequent buyer, and saw little actual combat use, if any.
