Peter Etril Snyder (Born 1944) is a Canadian painter, illustrator, and historian best known for his evocative depictions of the Canadian West, particularly the landscapes, communities, and rural traditions of Alberta. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Snyder developed an interest in art and western heritage from an early age and became recognized for his detailed paintings of prairie life, historic buildings, wildlife, and Indigenous and pioneer subjects. Working primarily in oil and watercolor, he combines careful observation with a strong sense of narrative, preserving the character of western Canada through scenes that reflect its history, people, and changing landscapes. In addition to his artistic career, Snyder has written and illustrated books on western Canadian history and has contributed to the preservation and interpretation of the region’s cultural heritage.
