Pedro Ramirez Vazquez (1919-2013) Mexican, Art Glass Relief Intaglio Sculpture. Shows a pre-Hispanic frosted face inside the clear cube. Signature etched into the side at the bottom. In 1965 Vázquez designed crystal glassware for the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, treating the material as "sculpture with light," which led him to establish a dedicated workshop and the brand Cristal-Art. His pieces have served as prestigious awards for international organizations, including the International Olympic Committee and the WBC, and he collaborated with artists such as Salvador Dalí on designs for the French firm DAUM. Today his crystal creations are featured in major museum collections across Mexico, France, Switzerland, and Norway.

Pedro Ramírez Vázquez was born in Mexico City on April 16th, 1919, and became a visionary Mexican architect known for blending European modernism with Pre-Columbian aesthetics. He designed some of Mexico’s most iconic buildings and developed an innovative rural school construction system used globally by UNICEF. Beyond architecture, he held major leadership roles, serving as the president of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and the 1970 World Cup. His extensive public service included serving as a government minister and founding the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, and throughout his career as a glass artist, architect, and humanitarian his contributions to design and society earned him prestigious honors, including the National Arts Award. He died on his birthday in 2013, one of the most beloved figures in the history of the city, with numerous schools and universities still bearing his signature designs.
