Paul Maxwell (1925-2015) was an American artist whose early inspiration came from the Arkansas landscape, influencing his later obsession with textured surfaces and stenciling. After graduating from Principia College and completing graduate work in California, he quickly gained recognition, exhibiting alongside artists like Picasso and Miro at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Maxwell taught at the University of Houston before traveling to Europe, and later developed and patented a technique known as Maxwell Pochoir (stencil-casting). He divided his career between Texas, Oklahoma, and San Diego, where he continued to work on abstract prints and site-specific sculptures.
