Patricia "Patti" Rock was born in Omaha, Nebraska and resided in southern California most of her life. Her father, Roland Doty, was a painter known for his New England port scenes. She married Sidney Rock and had four daughters before becoming a fashion model. Patti was an artist and teacher for over 50 years and owner of art galleries in Woodland Hills and Laguna Beach. She participated in the Catalina Art Festival for over 40 years, winning many local awards. She taught herself to work with oils, then became a master in watercolors and sculpting. Her Catalina seascapes, port scenes, still lifes, and whimsical nun paintings were sold throughout the world, and many wound up in private collections. Patti passed away in February, 2004. This piece displays her deceptively simple composition style, the dusk lighting rendered exquisitely on the land, water, and sky.
