Gerald Stinski was born in Menasha, Wisconsin in 1929. He attended parochial schools and then Sacred Heart Preparatory School in Watertown, Wisconsin. Upon completion, he then entered St. Camillus Monastery for a study period of 5 years. After leaving the monastery in 1952 he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at NATO headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia for 4 years. Afterwards he took a job designing living spaces in Atlanta, Georgia, before being offered a similar position in San Francisco, California. There he married his wife Bonnie, with whom he raised three daughters. He became a self-supporting, self taught artist around 1961, and eventually had solo exhibitions at art galleries in California, Florida, and New Mexico, as well as abroad in London and Amsterdam. Known locally as a raconteur and appreciated as much for his gentle nature as for his mastery of realism, Stinski passed away in 2015 in Healdsburg, California.
