Pair of Bohemian Yellow Cut to Clear Crystal Pendant Mantel Lusters. Mantel lusters, also known as mantle or table decorations, are elaborate candle holders that gained popularity in the 17th through 19th Centuries, particularly during the Victorian Era. Originally appearing in France, they were designed to reflect light from candles, with the term “luster” referring to the glass prisms that hung from the bowl. These lusters were seen as status symbols, signifying wealth and elegance, and were often displayed on mantels, sideboards, or tables.

Bohemian glass, also referred to as Bohemia crystal, is glass produced in the regions of Bohemia and Silesia, now parts of the Czech Republic. It has long been internationally recognized for its high quality, craftsmanship, beauty and innovative designs. Hand-cut, engraved, blown and painted decorative glassware ranging from champagne flutes to enormous chandeliers, ornaments, figurines and other glass items are among the best known Czech exports, and immensely popular as tourist souvenirs. The Czech Republic today is still home to countless glass studios and schools attended by local and foreign students. The oldest archaeological excavations of glass-making sites are located in the Lusatian Mountains and date them to around 1250 AD. Several towns have their own factory and glass museum, which employ most of the local populace, and often display items dating to around 1600. Jablonec nad Nisou in particular is famous for the local tradition of manufacturing glass costume jewelry. Among the most famous Czech glass producers are Moser (considered the most luxurious brand), Rückl (the particular favorite of Queen Elizabeth II), and Crystalex (an offshoot of Moser started by the Soviet Union).
