Oldrich Farsky was born in Czechoslovakia in 1860. He studied at the Art School in Prague from 1877 to 1879, and set up his own studio in Carlsbad, Bohemia in the early 1880s, traveling extensively to paint views of Italy, France, and Holland. In 1893 he immigrated to the United States, where he settled in Chicago, Illinois in order to be involved with the World’s Fair. He did portraiture in addition to landscapes in oils, and was heavily involved in arranging and showing his own work at the 1st Slavic Exhibition in 1905. He moved to Grand Traverse, Michigan in 1910, but continued to exhibit in Chicago and joined the Czech Art Club in 1918. He passed away in 1930 in Berwyn, Illinois, and is still sought after by collectors for his tonalist landscapes, still lifes, marine, and figure paintings.
