Six Bird-related pieces, all wired and ready to hang except for the butterfly poster, and all to benefit the Sarasota Audubon Society.
a) The first is a watercolor of a male and female Northern Shoveler, unsigned and undated. Shovelers breed in grasslands of the north and central U.S. and have a large spoon-shaped bill which widens towards the tip. Males have an iridescent green head and neck, a white chest and chestnut belly and sides, and their wings have a blue shoulder patch which is separated from the green speculum by a tapered white stripe. Females have a light brownish head with a blackish crown and a brownish speckled body. Matted and framed, the brown wooden frame is 24 3/4 x 33 and the image is
15 x 23 1/4 in. wide.
b) The next piece is a poster to honor Migratory Bird Day in 2000. It features a pair of Peregrine Falcons by Roger Tory Peterson, noted ornithologist who produced the field guides for American birds and the Birds of America series for the National Audubon Society. Matted and framed, the frame is 31 1/2 x 25 1/4 and the poster is 23 1/2 x
17 1/2 in. wide.
c) A large Birds of Prey identification chart (Volume I) from 1993, it features adult male hawks, eagles, falcons, and kites of the U.S. and Canada. Illustrated by Karen Pidgeon through Cornell University and put out by Windsor Publications in Oregon, it has a habitat and breeding guide at the bottom. The wooden frame is 36 3/4 x 24 3/4 and the image is 34 1/2 x 22 1/2 in. wide.
d) A large Birds of Prey Identification Chart (Volume II) from 1994, it features other adult male eagles, falcons, and kites of the U.S. and Canada. Illustrated by Karen Pidgeon through Cornell University and put out by Windsor Publications in Oregon, with a habitat and breeding guide at the bottom. The wooden frame is 36 3/4 x 24 3/4 and the image is 34 1/2 x 22 1/2 in. wide.
e) A large color lithograph by Cyndy Callog from 1998 that shows a sparrow, chickadee, and grosbeak hidden among some plants and flowers, signed and numbered 69 of 200 in the lower left and signed and dated in the lower right. The frame is 30 1/2 x 41 1/2 and the image is 17 x 28 in. wide.
f) A poster of Florida’s Butterflies, Caterpillars, & Their Host Plants, undated, put out by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, unframed, 35 x 23 in. wide.
