Norman Rockwell (1894–1978) was an American painter and illustrator celebrated for his warmly observed, often humorous depictions of everyday American life. He became famous for his nearly five-decade association with The Saturday Evening Post, producing 321 covers that portrayed children, families, workers, soldiers, and small-town communities with meticulous realism and expressive storytelling. Although critics sometimes dismissed his work as sentimental commercial illustration, Rockwell increasingly addressed serious social and political issues later in his career, notably in works such as The Problem We All Live With, which confronted school desegregation, and the Four Freedoms series, created during World War II. His extraordinary technical skill, keen eye for human character, and ability to turn ordinary moments into compelling narratives have made him one of the most recognizable figures in American art.
