Nishikawa Yoichiro was born in 1959 in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu. As a child he became interested in abstract art after attending a museum exhibit on the work of modern Western artists in Fukuoka, and in his late teens he first began to experiment with printmaking, particularly drawn to lithography. He graduated from the Tama University of Fine Arts in Tokyo, where he was exposed to bookmaking techniques from the 18th and 19th Centuries that played a part in his developing aesthetic. He has held solo exhibitions throughout Japan as well as in Germany and the United States, and his works are lauded for their geometric, three-dimensional quality in the vein of M. C. Escher and Marje Üksine, found in collections around the world including at the National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, D.C. and the British Museum in London.

Excellent.
