Nikolay Leganger (1832-1905) American "Mount Shasta, Cal" 1897 Rare Western Bear Hunting Scene Oil on Canvas. Signed lower right, titled lower left. Label on reverse with date. Leganger was one of America's highest rated artists in the late 19th Century. He exhibited at the National Academy in New York from 1877 to 1891. He is known for landscape and genre painting. In this hunting scene he combines both. His work was represented at an important sale at Noyes & Blakeslee in Boston and at Sotheby's in 2003.
