Austin Productions, founded in Brooklyn, New York, in 1952, specialized in reproductions of classical Egyptian, Greek, and Roman sculptures, later expanding to African, Asian, and contemporary works. By the 1970s, after relocating to Holbrook, the company added home furnishings, decorative sculptures, wall decorations, mirrors, and clocks, producing hand-cast Durastone, bronze, and hand-painted marble pieces, including modern subjects like sports figures, movie celebrities, and comic characters. Known for high-quality, collectible reproductions despite mass production, Austin Productions consolidated its manufacturing in Reynosa, Mexico in 2000 while keeping its Holbrook headquarters. The company produced thousands of pieces over decades but retired its entire line and closed in 2009 due to the Great Recession, leaving a strong collector market for its most popular works.
Significant loss to exterior paint.
