Michio Takayama Hand Printed and Signed Xmas Cards.

Michio Takayama (1903–1994) was a Japanese-American painter renowned for his richly layered abstract landscapes that blend Eastern sensibilities with the expansive light and forms of the American Southwest. Born in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, he initially pursued a career in law and banking, painting in his spare time under the mentorship of landscape artist Shin Kurihara. In 1939, Takayama left his banking career to focus on art full-time, a decision that led to his disownment by his father. After relocating to the United States in the 1950s, he eventually settled in Taos, New Mexico, in 1967, where the dramatic skies and desert vistas deeply influenced his work. His paintings—such as Sun Dew Point, Evening Crane, and Golden Echo—are known for their meditative quality and luminous color fields, often executed with a palette knife to create textured, atmospheric compositions. Takayama's work has been exhibited in institutions like the Harwood Museum of Art and the Long Beach Museum of Art, and his legacy continues to be celebrated as part of the Taos Moderns movement.
