Michel Delacroix was born in 1933 in Paris, France. Growing up during the Nazi occupation had a profound impact on him and his future work as an artist. He studied at the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts, but took a leave to spend two years walking the streets of Paris, trying to paint it and the people he observed from as many angles as possible. This led to a brief period working as a scenery designer for Marcel Marceau, as well as studying at the Lycee Louis-le-Grand, before finally returning to the Beaux Arts to finish his degree in the late 1950s. He began to teach to make ends meet, while gradually gathering appreciation in the local community for his “naïf” (naive) style. His primitive designs and subjects gave way at times to Op and Pop Art, as well as periods where he obsessed over Russian icons and the works of the Old Masters, as he constantly sought to reinvent and “deconstruct” his style over and over. After the birth of his sons he began to travel more frequently, exhibiting throughout Europe before finally having his first one man show in New York City in 1977. Since then he has continued to paint and produce much lauded works that are sold in galleries around the world and have won numerous awards, with a permanent collection on display at the Musee International d’Art Naif in Nice.

Excellent.
