Michael Gerry was born in 1952 in Rockford, Illinois, the eldest of five children who was encouraged by his teacher mother to pursue an interest in art. Inspired by the works of Georgia O’Keeffe, much of his work displayed his lifelong obsession with flowers, painting oversized photorealistic representations of a wide variety of floral images with subjects captured all over America, often in the plein air style. He exhibited widely throughout the Midwest and was represented for decades by the Studio of Long Grove and Hilligoss Galleries, often offering private lessons in painting out of his home studio. Tragically, he died abruptly of a brain aneurysm on July 23rd, 2008, and his works have become more and more sought after by collectors ever since.
