Maxine Stevens Sunderman Runci (1915–1977) was an American artist best known for her contributions to commercial art and doll design, particularly through her collaboration in creating the iconic Terri Lee doll. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she later lived and worked in Nebraska and California. Alongside her aunt Violet Lee Gradwohl, she co-designed the Terri Lee doll—modeled after her young daughter Drienne—which debuted at the 1946 Toy Fair and became widely popular through the late 1950s, renowned for its washable Celanese yarn wig and detailed wardrobe. Runci also created pin-up and glamour calendar illustrations under the name “Maxine Stevens,” often collaborating with her husband Edward Runci. Her works were featured in major auction catalogs and reproduced in publications such as The Great American Pin-Up. Her artwork remains collectible, with several oil paintings appearing in auction records, reflecting her role in mid‑20th‑century American commercial and illustrative art.
