Laris Seklitova Contemporary Russian Orthodox Icon, Christ Pantokrator. Large wood icon in traditional style.

Christ Pantocrator is one of the most iconic and enduring images of Jesus Christ in Christian art, particularly in Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine traditions. The term "Pantocrator" means "Ruler of All" or "Almighty," and the image typically portrays Christ with a serene yet authoritative expression, holding the Gospels in one hand and making a gesture of blessing with the other. This depiction emphasizes both His divine majesty and His role as the eternal judge and savior. The most famous examples are found in ancient churches and monasteries, such as the dome of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and the monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai. The icon is deeply theological, symbolizing the dual nature of Christ—fully God and fully man—and serves as a powerful reminder of His omnipresence and sovereignty over the universe.
