A proponent of working from nature, Crosby’s work is not dissimilar to the work of fellow female Connecticut painter, Harriette Merrow Landon. Interestingly, during her lifetime Crosby had nearly 200 of her own paintings hanging in her home, which may indicate she did not need to earn a living through their sale and why she is not better known today. Her maiden name, which is of Polish origin, is recorded in several variants (Ciechowska, Ciechowski, Cischowski) across different historical records and newspapers. Crosby was an active member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, Hartford Society of Women Painters, National Association of Woman Artists, Tolland County Art Association (possibly) and the West Hartford Art League.
