Mary Marguerite Porter Zwicker (1904–1993) was a Canadian watercolorist, educator, and influential supporter of the arts in Nova Scotia. Born in Pleasant Valley, Nova Scotia, she studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art, where she later taught, and continued her artistic development through further study and travel, including instruction with renowned artist-teacher Hans Hofmann. Zwicker became best known for her luminous watercolor paintings of Nova Scotia landscapes, fishing villages, coastal scenes, and rural life, distinguished by sensitive draftsmanship, vibrant color, and a deep appreciation for place. She exhibited with organizations including the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and the Art Association of Montreal and was a member of the Nova Scotia Society of Artists. Along with her husband, artist Leroy Zwicker, she operated Zwicker’s Gallery in Halifax, which played an important role in promoting and exhibiting regional artists. Through both her artwork and her dedication to the cultural life of Halifax, Zwicker left a lasting legacy in Canadian art.
