Maria Szantho (1897–1998) was a Hungarian painter born in Szeged, known for her richly detailed naturalist works featuring portraits, still lifes, and idealized figures—especially women posed in landscapes. Originally trained as a pianist at the Hungarian Music Academy, where her diploma was signed by composer Zoltán Kodály, she later turned to painting and studied with prominent Hungarian artists including Géza Kukán, Bertalan Karlovszky, and Pál Fried. After study trips to France and Italy, Szantho developed a romantic, impressionist-influenced style and exhibited widely, including at Műcsarnok in Budapest. Her sensuous, decorative paintings earned international recognition, and her works remain represented in collections and the art market.
