Margaret Salisbury is a contemporary American landscape painter based in North Carolina whose work is inspired by the rural countryside and the Appalachian Mountains. Working primarily in oil, she combines a strong plein-air practice with larger studio paintings, capturing the changing light, atmosphere, and character of the natural world. Since taking up oil painting in 1999, Salisbury has become known for her depictions of mountain vistas, back roads, streams, and other quiet landscapes, often painting on location in remote settings. Her paintings reflect a deep appreciation for observation, place, and the enduring beauty of the Southern landscape.
