Limoges porcelain refers to fine hard-paste porcelain produced in and around Limoges, France, a center of high-quality ceramics since the late 18th century after deposits of kaolin clay were discovered nearby. Renowned for its pure white color, translucency, and delicate yet durable composition, Limoges porcelain became synonymous with luxury tableware and decorative objects, often hand-painted or richly gilded. Prestigious makers such as Haviland & Co. helped popularize it internationally, especially in the United States during the 19th century. Today, authentic Limoges pieces are still highly valued for their craftsmanship, artistry, and historical significance, with many bearing factory marks that identify their origin and maker.
