Leon Applebaum (born 1945 in Toledo, Ohio) is an American glass artist celebrated for his innovations in studio glass sculpture. Over more than three decades, he has developed distinctive glass-blowing techniques that harness fire, air, centrifugal force, and gravity to shape molten glass into dynamic, abstract forms. His works—often rich with transparent, jewel-like colors and fluid lines—emphasize the interplay of light, color, and form, revealing the luminous potential of glass itself. Besides hot-glass sculptures, Applebaum also produces cooled glass components that he assembles into complex compositions, giving him freedom to explore shapes and structures not possible directly from blowing. His pieces are widely exhibited and collected, valued for their technical virtuosity and expressive, flowing energy.
