Lee Reynolds Burr was born in Los Angeles, California in 1936, obtaining his fine arts degree at the University of Southern California before serving in the US Army until 1956. He worked briefly for other painters before opening his own company, Vanguard Studios, in Beverly Hills, painting oils on canvas that were then reproduced by other artists he handpicked, rapidly becoming one of the leading national providers of wall decor in the 1960s and 70s. Hundreds of thousands of paintings bearing variants of his name were sold before 1974, when Vanguard was acquired by the Kirsch Company. Burr opened East Park Gallery in Sylmar in 1981, focusing on more contemporary aesthetics and exclusive content before retiring to Indian Wells in 1998, where he lived until his death on December 4th, 2017.
