Kenneth Webster was born in Kenmore, New York in December 1923. He served as a Marine in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and afterwards attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn on the GI Bill, with a focus in Fine Arts. Here he met and married his first wife Jan, and after completing his degree he spent over a decade traveling with the Air Force as an artist. Numerous paintings and sketches that came from this journey are compiled in the Air Force Art Collection. In 1964 his family settled in Reno, Nevada, where he opened an ad agency, Design Directions. During this time his personal art took a backseat, but he was voted “Ad Man of the Year” for his work as Art Director of Nevada Magazine in 1972. In 1974 he and Jan got divorced, and a year later he married a woman named Cheryl and sold the company to move to Shelter Cove, California. The rest of Kenneth’s life was spent rediscovering his joy of painting, producing numerous oils and watercolors of seascapes and landscapes. After the death of his eldest son Michael in 1999 his health began to deteriorate, and the family moved to Mariposa, California for better health care options. He passed away unexpectedly in July 2008 in his home, and many of his works can be found in private collections throughout the West Coast.
