Kelly O’Dell was born in Seattle, Washington in 1973, and spent most of her early life in Hawaii where she was inspired by the incredible beauty of nature and the work of local glassmakers to pursue the craft. Originally focused on Astronomy and Oceanography, she obtained her BFA in Studio Art Glass from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1999, then moved to the mainland to study further at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington until 2004. During this time she also worked as an assistant at United Glassblowing in Santa Ana, California, where she met and studied under other artists like Randy Walker, William Morris, Katherine Gray, and the de la Torre Brothers. From 2008 onward she began running her own furnace, Caldera Glass Studio, which she built together with her partner Raven Skyriver on Lopez Island, Washington, crafting highly sought cups, vases, bowls and much larger installations that have garnered her international acclaim.
