Kelly Jo Kuchar was born in Dallas, Texas in 1963, and studied fine arts at Southern Methodist University where she became interested in weaving, painting, and sculpting. After graduating she launched Kelly Jo Designs, a high-end handmade jewelry business, before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the 1990s to focus on functional ceramic artwork and the inspiration of the sweeping vistas of the Southwest. Her works have been found in numerous private collections, including those of three United States Presidents, as well as for local events, charities, and galleries throughout the region. She focuses now on painting in acrylic, oil, watercolors, and India ink at her gallery in the Village of Los Ranchos, as well as teaching art lessons and offering unique events to encourage budding artists.
