Karl Cartier (1855-1925) was a French painter known primarily for landscapes, river scenes, boat or harbor views, and pastoral subjects. He studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, exhibited at the Salon from about 1875, and won recognition with medals (including at the University Exposition of 1889). His work often captures rural and regional French settings—Moret-sur-Loing, Saint-Briac, and motifs like fields, farm animals, and riverbanks show up frequently. Paintings by Cartier have been exhibited and sold at auction, and some are held in French museums.
Condition: Loss to paint, predominantly on lower half of painting.
