Jolanda Prinsen was born in 1947 in Haarlem in the Netherlands. She studied sculpture in wood, stone, and ceramics at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, graduating in 1975. She later studied Art History at the University of Amsterdam, obtaining her Bachelors in 2007 and her Masters in 2010. In the interim she participated in numerous group exhibitions in galleries and museums across the Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, and finally the United States, where she first discovered a love for glassmaking as well. Her solo exhibitions in the Stedelijk Museum and Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and the Frans Hals Museum and De Hallen in Haarlem were well received, which led to her becoming a sculpture teacher at the Minerva Academy in Groningen from 1980 to 1985. She also taught at the Atlantic College of the World in Wales in 1993 and was a regular artist in residence at the Rijkshogeschool in Maastricht from 1985 to 2007. Her unique patterns and designs have remained popular throughout her career, and since the 2010s she has expanded her focus to include works in paper, textiles, painting, and art installations as well.
