In 1980 Union Street Glass opened in Richmond, California. It was founded by Guy Corrie, the head designer, glassblower, and master craftsperson, along with the help of his wife and business partner Leanne. Both of them had grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area, inspired by the unique confluence of urban, natural, and human elements that made the area a hotspot for artists in all styles and mediums. Over the decades the company grew from a tiny 600 square foot studio into a 10,000 square foot hotshop and gallery. The small family-run company was able to expand exponentially by developing a sister production team in the Czech Republic, in the heart of the ancient Bohemian glassblowing region. Their designs have won awards by fusing innovative design concepts with old world glassblowing techniques, and the studio continued to forge new styles and quirky, twisted glasses, vases, bowls and more until the facility was permanently closed in 2023 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
