Joel Hunnicutt (Born 1963) American, Modern Turned Wood Vase. Beautiful yellow to red color gradient from top to bottom, with square openings throughout and a brilliantly glazed exterior. Signed on bottom. 

Size: 10 x 10 x 19 in. 

Joel Hunnicutt was born in South Carolina in 1963. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in business management in 1985, and initially worked as an apparel buyer, merchandise manager, and store manager for a Southern department store. In the late 1990s he purchased a small insurance agency in order to spend more time with his family. During this time, he took a woodworking course at a community college and soon fell in love with the lathe work. By the early 2000s he had transitioned from a part time hobbyist to a full time woodworker, almost entirely self-taught after that initial course. He gained regional acclaim for his unique wood shapes, often as vases and bowls that have the luminosity of glass and the strength of pottery with his own twist and vibrant color scheme. Joel now lives at a home studio in Hendersonville, North Carolina where he continues to craft vases and other shapes that national collectors are starting to seek out.
