Joanne Sibley (1930– ) is a Canadian-born painter celebrated for her luminous landscapes, seascapes, and portraiture inspired by Caribbean life. Trained in interior design at the University of Manitoba, she began her artistic career in Jamaica in the 1950s, where she worked with a prominent advertising agency and later created architectural renderings and portrait commissions through her husband’s architectural firm. After relocating to the Cayman Islands in 1980, Sibley became one of the region’s most recognized artists, known for her vivid watercolors and oils depicting Caymanian scenery, culture, and everyday life. Her work has been widely exhibited and collected throughout the Caribbean and Canada, and she has received numerous honors, including the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Creativity Prize. Through a career spanning decades, Sibley has earned acclaim for her ability to combine technical precision with a warm, atmospheric sense of place.
