Jedd Garet was born in 1955 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1976 and from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1978. Considered one of the most prominent Neo-Expressionist American sculptors, painters, and printmakers of the 80s, he was primarily influenced by surrealist painter Giorgio de Chirico, using garish colors in jarring contrasts to explore relationships between nature, man, and art. His humanoid figures, classical architectural fragments, and abstraction in narrative works are regular themes, and he is best known for his amorphous life forms throughout his diverse media. His works are found in museums all over the world, including the Honolulu Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
