Size: 11 1/4 x 15 3/4 in.
Jason Middlebrook, born in 1966 in Jackson, Michigan, is an American visual artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, and public‑art projects. He earned a BFA from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, then completed the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York. Middlebrook is best known for his distinctive “plank sculptures” — rough‑hewn slabs of hardwood painted with intricate, abstract geometric patterns that contrast the natural wood grain, along with large‑scale murals and mosaics. His art consistently explores the tension between the organic world and human‑made structures, reflecting on how nature and urban environments intersect, evolve, and sometimes clash. Living and working in Hudson, New York, Middlebrook draws inspiration from the surrounding woods and landscape, using his work to celebrate nature’s beauty while raising awareness about environmental stewardship.
