Japanese Komai Style Gold Inlay Iron Cigarette Case Cigarette case with inlaid gold landscape image on cover and elaborately carved decoration on rim.

Komai style refers to the intricate metalwork pioneered by the Komai family in Kyoto, Japan, during the late Edo and Meiji periods. This technique involves fine inlays of gold and silver on iron surfaces, creating detailed decorative scenes inspired by Japanese landscapes, mythology, and traditional motifs. Often seen on jewelry, boxes, and sword fittings, Komai-style pieces are highly prized for their precision and artistry. The Komai workshop, led by Komai Otojiro, was particularly influential in promoting this craft, which became popular among collectors worldwide, especially during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
