John Wade Beam (known professionally as J. Wade Beam) was born at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey in 1944, and grew up to be a prominent industrial and furniture designer best known for his bold mid-century and postmodern creations for the luxury manufacturer Brueton. Emerging as a major design force during the 1970s and 1980s, his work is renowned for exploring physical and visual balance, gravity, and structural tension using dense, high-end architectural materials. Working extensively with mirror-polished stainless steel, heavy chrome, and thick glass, he crafted sculptural furniture pieces defined by dynamic, cantilevered forms, and among his most celebrated creations are the iconic “Tee” console table, the “Pinnacle” dining table, and the “Zephyr” series, which blend sleek minimalism with dramatic scale. Beam passed away in 2023 in Chicago, and today his sophisticated works remain highly prized among collectors and interior designers.
