Dhokra Damar tribes are the main traditional metalsmiths of Odisha and West Bengal, and their technique of lost wax casting is named after their tribe, hence the well-known Indian Dhokra metal casting artform. A few hundred years ago, the Dhokras of Central and Eastern India traveled south as far as Tamilnadu and north as far as Rajasthan and hence are now found all over India. However, the artform originated over 4,000 years ago in the region, and the distant ancestors of the Dhokra are believed to have brought it with them through travels throughout Europe and Africa in the Bronze Age.
