Artist and Mystic Herman Rednick was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 2, 1902. He attended the Natiopnal Academy of Design, graduating with honors in 1927. He exhibited at the National Gallery in New York and at galleries in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. While living in Los Angeles he was drafted into the army in 1942 and served in the Pacific theater. After the war he moved to Taos, New Mexico where his work reflected the people and landscape of the area, particularly the people of the Taos Pueblo. His work evolved into more mystical imagery as he began to practice yoga. After he moved to Taos, his works concentrated on portraying ancient Mayan temples and modern-day events suggesting a spiritual dimension. A variety of lithographs range from depictions of Christ healing the leper to the spirit of war to portraits of men and women in Taos Pueblo in the 1950s and '60s.

In 1969 Rednick began teaching his meditation techniques, building a meditation center near El Rito, NM. Herman Rednick died in April of 1985 in Taos, New Mexico. His home remains as a center, maintained by the Herman Rednick Trust, displaying many of his paintings.
