Guy Leclerc-Gayrau (born 1942 in Bergerac, Dordogne, France) is a self-taught French painter known for his expressive abstract compositions and distinctive use of color, texture, and geometric forms. Beginning to paint around 1960, he developed an individual technique in which he applied oil paint to black, wax-coated paper or other surfaces and then scraped it with a palette knife, creating subtle gradations, rich textures, and striking contrasts. His work spans both figurative subjects, including flowers and still lifes, and nonfigurative geometric abstraction, often characterized by bold colors and dynamic vertical forms. Alongside his artistic career, Leclerc-Gayrau worked in the pharmaceutical industry and in communications, and also pursued writing on political subjects. His paintings reflect an experimental approach to materials and a personal vision that bridges representational imagery and modern abstraction.
