Gösta Millberg (1922-2008) Swedish, Polychrome Stoneware Rörstrand Art Vase. Vibrant swirls of greys, blues, and greens on the outside, deep rich blues, greens, and a golden strip on the inside. Marked on base with the company logo and the word Sweden and signed "G. Millberg." Paper label taped to bottom side with description and prior price.

Gösta Millberg was born Nils Gösta Ingemar on January 30th, 1922 in Hovby Parish, Skaraborg, Sweden. He grew up in nearby Lidköping where he worked for Lidköpings Porslinsfabrik, a small local ceramic factory that became the headquarters of famed pottery company Rörstrand in 1932. Although they had mainly decorated imported wares from Bavaria for their first two decades, a small workshop and two kilns had been built in the 1910s, and Millberg had the chance to craft his own wares there in the early 1940s while still a teenager. Millberg stayed with the company through the 1980s despite many mergers and acquisitions, until he was laid off in a massive downsizing in the wake of a bankruptcy in 1989 by their latest owners, Wärtsilä. From then on he was affiliated solely with the Drejar Gruppen, a group of top designers and decorators who had formed at Rörstrand starting in the early 1960s and continued to work together both in and outside the company into the new Millennium. Millberg died on December 29th, 2008, and most of his pieces are now in private collections throughout Scandinavia.
