Glen Tracy was born in Hudson, Michigan, Jan 24 1883. He studied with Frank Duveneck at the Art Academy of Cincinnati for most of 1899-1910, teaching there for the last two years as well. Glen Tracy enjoyed traveling and painting new sites. Before 1924, he had painted in Canada, Colorado, Cuba, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee. In 1951 Tracy moved to Florida to be near the major circus towns, centering his artwork on big top scenes and performers, such as this piece. Tracy and his wife Mimi traveled with the major circuses for almost a decade. His work was shown at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC, the Scarab Club in Detroit, Closson Galleries in Cincinnati, and his work is currently represented at the Detroit Art Institute. He died in Sarasota, Florida in April 1956.
