Gini Garcia (Born 1963) American, (2) Whimsical Art Glass Vases. Like something out of Dr. Seuss, with round orange pitcher-plant style tops on long necks with blue and green swirls of color throughout, highlighted by blobs and "S" shapes in orange on the main body below. One shorter than the other. Both signed and dated on the undersides of the clear feet.
Size: 3 1/2 x 13 1/2 in.
Gini Garcia was born in Monterrey, Mexico in 1963, and immigrated to the United States along with her family when she was five, where they settled in San Antonio. At first determined to be a doctor, she was a pre-med and biology major at St. Mary’s University when she discovered a surprising love for interior design. She enrolled at San Antonio College and obtained an associate degree in sculpture before receiving a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute, where she earned more degrees in industrial design, set design, and environmentalism. After a chance meeting with an art glass collector at a ranch in Utopia, Texas, she sought out a glassblowing class at the New Orleans School of Glassworks, and spent the next three years honing her craft before opening Garcia Art Glass in San Antonio in 1998. A family affair run almost entirely by women with an eye on offering opportunities to apprentice to minorities and the less fortunate, it has grown into one of the most respected studios in the Southwest, with jewelry, decorative objects, and large-scale installations found all over the world.
