Latticino glass is a handcrafted Venetian and Murano art glass that features delicate, swirling patterns of colored or opaque white glass threads (canes) incorporated into a clear glass matrix, then twisted and manipulated to create characteristic striped, latticed, or ribbon-like designs. While the technique dates back to the Renaissance, it experienced a massive revival and evolution during the 19th Century, particularly by the renowned Salviati glassworks. A highly intricate style of latticino, named Zanfirico, emerged during this era, named after the Italian art dealer Antonio Sanquirico who wound up exporting it and leading to it being widely adopted by French and Bohemian glassmakers in the late 1800s. Today it is some of the most highly sought Murano glass by collectors, particularly early antique pieces.
