Gil Blas was a widely read French literary and satirical periodical that ran from 1879 to 1914, named after the picaresque novel by Alain-René Lesage. It served as a vibrant platform for prominent literary figures, serializing works by writers such as Émile Zola and Guy de Maupassant. The publication was also known for its sharp political satire and striking illustrations, offering commentary on contemporary French society and culture. Gil Blas played a key role in the Belle Époque literary scene, capturing the era's elegance and social tensions.
