Tomales Bay is a beautiful inlet of the Pacific Ocean just north of San Francisco, California. The bay forms the eastern boundary of Point Reyes National Seashore, which is geographically separated from the continental United States by a fault zone. Known for their oysters farms and fisheries, Tomales Bay is a wild and largely unspoiled stretch of land. The Marshall Boat Works was a boat repair shop established on the east side of the inlet in 1945, eventually bought and renamed the Fisher-Smith Boatworks. The visuals of this particular location have attracted painters and photographers for decades, and this piece captures the tranquil yet rough lifestyle of the hard-working community. Although signed and dated, no information on the artist could be found.
