Boyd Gavin received his BA from University of California, Santa Cruz in 1980, and his MFA from California State University, Sacramento in 1990. Gavin paints in a very straightforward manner, with a loose brushstroke and bright palette that lends itself well to painting small, easily recognizable objects such as crayons and marbles. Inspired by artists like Fairfield Porter and David Park, he has exhibited work in multiple shows at the John Natsoulas Gallery, the Artists Contemporary Gallery, and Caldwell Synder in San Francisco. He also has work in the permanent collection of The Crocker Museum in Sacramento going back all the way to 1977, and continues to produce new work out of his studio in Davis, California.
